My eyes burned. The neighbors silently watched from their porches, suddenly speechless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The man continued, \u201cMy name isn\u2019t really Mr. Thompson the mailman.<\/em> My real name is Richard Langford<\/strong>\u2026 and I own the largest logistics company in the Midwest. From the Bugatti\u2019s passenger seat, he pulled out a college scholarship certificate<\/strong>, sealed and signed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA full ride. Any school he wants. And a trust fund to make sure he never struggles for showing the character adults twice his age lack.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eli\u2019s mouth fell open. \u201cFor REAL?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFor real, buddy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The neighbors sank back inside their houses in shame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Richard shook my hand. \u201cYou raised a good one. This world needs more Elis.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
